Kathleen Leslie – Burntisland, Kinghorn & Western Kirkcaldy
Kathleen was first elected in 2017 and has also stood twice as a parliamentary candidate (Kirkcaldy & Cowdenbeath 2019 and Kirkcaldy in 2021).
Prior to becoming a councillor, she was a teacher of both History and later Additional Support Needs. Her background in education has led to Kathleen being an active contributor at the Council’s Education & Children’s Services Committee, where she is the Conservative group’s Education Spokesperson. Kathleen took the lead in calling for Fife Council to scrap SNSA in Primary 1 and for a fully funded additional year at nursery for all children who are not 5 years old at the beginning of the school term. Kathleen has also successfully brought a motion to Council which has led to the SNP’s inappropriate and intrusive “sex survey” being halted for now in Fife.
Not long after being elected Kathleen and the Conservative group worked hard to have the Council transition away from single-use plastic and she wants to see far better recycling facilities in Fife – including the introduction of kerbside glass recycling.
At the Ward level Kathleen has long championed calls for fully accessible railway stations in both Burntisland and Kinghorn and will continue to work with the community to address this. She has also continued to scrutinise decisions being made around Kirkcaldy Town Centre and will progress questions around the Council’s restrictive policy for blue badge holders to the High Street.
Kathleen commented – “I have worked hard these past five years on behalf of the communities across the Ward and have attempted to find resolutions to all issues that residents contact me about. Recently I have had an increasing amount of communication from residents about housing matters, including transfers not being properly addressed. If re-elected I will continue to help people with their housing applications. I will also be continuing to prioritise the need for more decentralised budgets so issues such as the terrible state of some our roads are properly addressed. I also will continue to push for better transparency from the Council and for more consultation from residents so people are actually listened to. Anti-social behaviour is becoming more of a problem in some areas of the Ward and, if re-elected, I am keen to set up a working group with people in affected areas.”
