‘Weak’ Sarwar only shamed into axing disgraced MSP by Starmer

Anas Sarwar was only shamed into removing the Labour whip from disgraced MSP Pam Duncan-Glancy by the man he claims is too weak and ineffectual to be Prime Minister, it was claimed today.

After weeks of dithering and stonewalling, the Scottish Labour leader finally sacked the Glasgow MSP over her friendship with paedophile Sean Morton last night – hours after Keir Starmer removed the whip from Labour peer Matthew Doyle over his links to the same man.

The Scottish Conservatives said Sarwar was guilty of a “shocking error of judgment” in not removing the whip from Duncan-Glancy when the story emerged months ago, and had only been “embarrassed” into acting by the PM he has called on to quit.

Scottish Conservative deputy leader Rachael Hamilton said: “Pam Duncan-Glancy should have been shown the door when her close friendship with a convicted paedophile first emerged – but Anas Sarwar was too weak to act.

“He was only finally shamed into doing the right thing by Keir Starmer removing the whip from a Labour peer over his links to the same offender.

“It was a shocking error of judgment by Anas Sarwar that he failed to take decisive action months ago – and instead, pathetically, tried to claim that there was no need to act because Duncan-Glancy was standing down at May’s election.

“It’s humiliating for the Scottish Labour leader that he was only embarrassed into sacking her by the man he says is not up to the job of being Prime Minister.

“Scandal-ridden Labour are in meltdown north and south of the border, and totally incapable of opposing the failing SNP government. The Scottish Conservatives are the only party standing up to the Nationalists and their obsession with breaking up the UK.”
