Findlay: SNP cannot be trusted with Scotland's defence

The SNP would sacrifice Scotland’s world-leading defence sector in their obsessive pursuit of independence, Russell Findlay said today (Friday).

The Scottish Conservative leader was in Glasgow this morning to mark a visit to a defence manufacturer by Conservative shadow secretary of state for defence James Cartlidge.

Findlay said that every politician should support Scotland’s defence businesses and workers, but “petty” SNP politicians would rather see the sector destroyed.

He says the nationalists’ position has always been “idiotic” but in today’s volatile world it is “downright dangerous”.

Findlay added voters must use their peach ballot paper to vote Scottish Conservative in May’s election to stop an SNP majority that would put national security and thousands of jobs at risk.

Cartlidge said the work being done by defence workers is vital for the whole of the United Kingdom, but that it risked being undermined by Swinney’s plans for another independence referendum.

Scottish Conservative leader Russell Findlay said: “John Swinney’s SNP would sacrifice Scotland’s world-leading defence sector in their obsessive pursuit of independence.

“Every politician in this country should support Scotland’s defence businesses and workers who help to keep our country and our allies safe.

“Yet petty SNP politicians are so blinded by their desire to break up the United Kingdom that they would rather see it destroyed.

“This has always been idiotic, but in today’s volatile world it is downright dangerous.

“An SNP majority in May’s election would jeopardise our national security and put thousands of jobs at risk.

“That’s why Scots must use their peach ballot paper to vote for the Scottish Conservatives and help stop an SNP majority.”

Shadow secretary of state for defence James Cartlidge added: “I was delighted to be in Glasgow to see the incredible work being done to boost our nation’s defence capabilities.

“At a time of wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, this work is vital for protecting the whole of our United Kingdom, but John Swinney and the SNP want to put all of this at risk with their plans for another independence referendum.

“Scots should reject these self-indulgent and divisive plans by using their peach ballot paper to vote for the Scottish Conservatives on May 7th and help stop an SNP majority.”
