Voters have been warned that they can’t trust Scottish Labour after being subjected to almost two years of broken promises and U-turns by Keir Starmer’s “disastrous” government.
Scottish Conservative deputy leader Rachael Hamilton says that Anas Sarwar – who launches his party’s Holyrood manifesto today (Monday) – had betrayed Scots by campaigning tirelessly to help install Prime Ministerial “dud” Starmer and Chancellor Rachel Reeves in Downing Street.
She added that Scottish Labour were incapable of offering change, after 19 years of SNP failure, because they support the Nationalists on so many issues.
From high taxes and a refusal to rein in benefits spending, to abandoning oil and gas workers and supporting Nicola Sturgeon’s gender reforms and Humza Yousaf’s Hate Crime Act, Labour are part of the “same failed, left-wing Holyrood consensus”.
Scottish Conservative deputy leader Rachael Hamilton said: “Scottish voters know they can’t trust Labour after being subjected to nearly two years of broken promises and U-turns by Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves.
“Anas Sarwar and Scottish Labour campaigned tirelessly to install this dud Prime Minister in Downing Street, and they need to own the consequences of his disastrous government.
“The country is paying a heavy price for taking a punt on Starmer, and Anas Sarwar’s belated, self-serving attempt to disown him won’t wash.
“Scotland desperately needs change after 19 years of decline under the SNP – but Labour can’t offer that change because they’re part of the same failed, left-wing Holyrood consensus.
“Like the SNP, Labour are happy to let benefits spending soar out of control, and they nodded through the Nationalists’ most recent tax-raising budget.
“Both parties want to kill off our North Sea oil and gas industry, while Anas Sarwar and Co voted for the Hate Crime Act and betrayed women by backing Nicola Sturgeon’s reckless gender self-ID policy.
“The Scottish Conservatives are the only party that can be trusted to stand up to the Nationalists. That’s why voters across Scotland should back us on their peach ballot to stop an SNP majority.”
