Russell Findlay today urged pro-UK voters to unite behind the Scottish Conservatives on their peach ballot to stop an SNP majority that would see Scotland “paralysed by constitutional wrangling”.
Ahead of a campaign visit to Livingston with his party’s lead candidate for the Central Scotland and Lothians West region, Meghan Gallacher, the Scottish Conservative leader called on voters across the country to use their “secret weapon” to thwart John Swinney.
The SNP leader has repeatedly said that if he secures a majority on May 7 – something he is now confidently predicting – he will push relentlessly for another independence referendum.
With many postal voters having already received their ballots, Findlay reminded Scots that backing the Scottish Conservatives on the peach-coloured regional list ballot is the “tried and tested way” to deny the SNP an outright victory and safeguard the Union.
Scottish Conservative leader Russell Findlay said: “If the SNP win a majority, which John Swinney arrogantly reckons is in the bag, Scotland will be paralysed by constitutional wrangling.
“We know this because Swinney has repeatedly said that he’ll push relentlessly for another independence referendum if he wins the election outright.
“But Pro-UK voters have a secret weapon to prevent this nightmare scenario arising and ensure that the next parliament focuses on what matters – the cost-of-living crisis and fixing crumbling public services.
“Voting Scottish Conservative on the peach ballot paper is the tried and tested way to stopping an SNP majority.
“We are the only party who can be trusted to stand up to the SNP on the Union.
“Labour and the Liberal Democrats are weak and complacent, while Reform are not even a Unionist party. Lord Offord is fielding pro-independence candidates, and he and Nigel Farage are relaxed about another referendum. Reform are a gift to Swinney and a vote for them only helps the SNP.”
