SNP’s ‘reckless’ open-door immigration policy has made Glasgow a magnet for asylum seekers

The Scottish Conservatives have today slammed the SNP for a “reckless” rule change that has made Glasgow a magnet for asylum seekers.

The Nationalist government’s decision to suspend the local connection rule for social housing applications has led to an influx of immigrants to Scotland’s largest city – prompting the SNP-run council to warn that they cannot cope with the impact on local services.

Stephen Kerr, who is appearing on The Sunday Show today to discuss the topic, said the SNP’s
open-door immigration policy is placing “immense pressure” on public services.

He also attacked Labour for failing to stop the boats, adding that “pathetically weak” Keir Starmer has no credible plan to curb illegal immigration.

Kerr added that Labour, the SNP and the Greens refuse to acknowledge the impact immigration is having on our communities, adding that the Scottish Conservatives would reinstate the local connection rule.

Scottish Conservative candidate Stephen Kerr said: “The SNP’s reckless open-door immigration policy has made Glasgow a magnet for asylum seekers.

“The Nationalists’ disastrous decision to suspend the local connection rule has led to an influx of immigrants into Scotland’s largest city, increasing the already-huge demand for social housing and putting other public services under immense pressure.

“Even the SNP-run council are telling John Swinney that they can’t cope.

“The Nationalists are exacerbating a problem that stems from the failure of the pathetically weak Keir Starmer to stop the boats, leading to illegal immigration reaching record highs.

“Labour, the SNP and the extremist Greens refuse to acknowledge the impact immigration is having on our communities. They’re completely out of touch.

“The Scottish Conservatives would reinstate the local connection rule immediately to ease Glasgow’s housing crisis.

“If the Nationalists win the election this situation will only escalate. That’s why you need to vote Scottish Conservative on your peach ballot – it’s your secret weapon to stop an SNP majority.”
