Scottish Conservative leader Russell Findlay says only his party are being honest about the need to curb the SNP's “out-of-control” benefits bill.
Findlay will highlight the figures being spent by John Swinney's government at a campaign event in Glasgow this morning.
Spending on welfare has already hit £7 billion this year and is forecasted to reach £9.2billion by 2030-31.
The Daily Telegraph reported today that Social Security Scotland have spent nearly £1million in the last two years on hiring rental cars to travel to people’s homes to help them fill in benefit forms.
Findlay says the SNP's light-touch approach means their benefits system has become a "charter for chancers" who may also be denying people in genuine need of support.
He highlighted the case of former SNP election candidate Sally Donald who was living an "Instagram lifestyle", despite claiming close to £20,000 in Adult Disability Payments she wasn’t entitled to.
Findlay added that if the SNP get a majority on May 7th, benefits spending will only increase, which is why voters must back his party on their peach ballot paper.
Scottish Conservative leader Russell Findlay said: “Hard-working Scots are sick of being hit with sky-high SNP taxes only for John Swinney to spend their cash on his out-of-control benefits bill.
“The SNP's light-touch benefits system has created a charter for chancers like Sally Donald who lived an Instagram lifestyle while pocketing thousands of pounds she wasn't entitled to.
“Our common-sense plan to reduce the benefits bill will deliver fairness for taxpayers while ensuring support for those in genuine need.
“We're the only party being honest with Scots that our country cannot afford the SNP's ballooning social security spending.
“If the SNP get a majority on May 7th, benefits spending will keep rising, which is why people should use their peach ballot paper to vote Scottish Conservative.”
