Russell Findlay has urged pro-UK voters to deploy their “secret weapon” today (Thursday) to stop John Swinney plunging Scotland into five years of fresh constitutional chaos.
In a final rallying cry, the Scottish Conservative leader called on Scots to back his party on their peach ballot paper to deny the SNP a majority, which Swinney has said he will use to demand another independence referendum.
Findlay said that one of the reasons he entered politics was because he wanted Scotland to move on from the bitter divisions caused by the 2014 vote.
He warned that reopening those wounds was “the last thing Scotland needs” when the focus should be on easing the cost-of-living crisis and fixing public services that are broken under the Nationalists.
Findlay added that voting Scottish Conservative on the peach regional list vote was the tried and tested way to stop an SNP majority – having worked in 2016 and 2021.
Scottish Conservative leader Russell Findlay said: “John Swinney has repeatedly said that holding another referendum to break up our great country will be his only priority if the SNP get a majority.
“At the start of the campaign, he went up Calton Hill to wave flags and shout about independence. On the final day of the campaign, I went up the same hill to say ‘no’.
“The last thing Scotland needs is five more wasted years of bitter constitutional chaos.
“One reason I got into politics is because I desperately want our country to heal by moving on from the toxic era of nationalist division.
“Our party is focused on getting Scotland working by cutting bills for hard-working Scots, and fixing the SNP’s broken public services, while Swinney only fixates on independence.
“But pro-UK voters have the power to block Swinney by voting Scottish Conservative on their peach ballot paper.
“That’s their secret weapon to stop an SNP majority. It worked in 2016 and 2021 – and it can work again.”
