Pro-UK voters are being urged to unite behind the Scottish Conservatives in tomorrow’s “knife-edge” Aberdeen South by-election.
The party’s candidate Douglas Lumsden says he is the only person who can stop the SNP winning the constituency and prevent local people waking up on Friday to the news that they still have a Nationalist MP representing them.
In the corresponding constituency at the Holyrood election, a split in the pro-UK vote allowed the SNP’s Stephen Flynn to be elected by just 1,200 votes.
Lumsden is urging anyone considering voting for another party, including Reform, to think twice and back the Scottish Conservatives, to avoid last month’s scenario being repeated.
He says electing an MP from the SNP, which still has a presumption against new oil and gas projects, would be a “devastating blow” for those employed in the sector.
Lumsden adds that he will be a relentless champion for the oil and gas industry from day one, if elected tomorrow, by backing plans to get Britain drilling again and demanding an end to the Energy Profits Levy.
Scottish Conservative candidate for Aberdeen South Douglas Lumsden said: “Tomorrow’s by-election in Aberdeen South is one where every vote will count.
“If you want to beat the SNP and have an MP who will be a relentless champion for the oil and gas sector, then you must unite behind me.
“A vote for any other party, including Reform, will only help elect an SNP MP. That would be a devastating blow for oil and gas workers in the area, given the Nationalists’ refusal to back new drilling in the North Sea.
“We saw in the Holyrood election just last month how voting for any other party only helps SNP politicians sneak through the middle and win by default in the North East.
“Pro-UK voters don’t have to wake up on Friday and still have an SNP MP representing them. If they vote for me, even just this one time, we can beat the Nationalists and end their war on oil and gas.”
