The SNP government have been urged to scrap funding for a taxpayer-funded charity that is running a group that trains biological men to breastfeed babies.
Scottish Conservative health spokesman Miles Briggs has called on his SNP counterpart Angela Constance to intervene following the revelations in The Times this week.
The LGBT Health and Wellbeing charity are using taxpayers’ money to promote their “Queer Milk” group and say they welcome those “breastfeeding, chestfeeding or giving human milk to their baby in any amount, no matter what your feeding journey looks like.
The group received £262,000 from the SNP government and a further £252,000 from NHS Lothian. Glasgow’s Health and Social Care Partnership and Edinburgh’s Integration Joint Board also gave them £230,000.
Miles Briggs says taxpayers will be appalled that they are funding an organisation promoting this “grotesque” practice and said funding should be withheld until these sessions no longer take place.
He added it is further evidence of Nicola Sturgeon’s toxic gender self-ID agenda still being embedded in Scotland’s charity sector and that public money should not be supporting those openly defying the clear ruling from the Supreme Court last year.
Scottish Conservative health spokesman Miles Briggs MSP said: “Taxpayers will be appalled that they are funding a group promoting such a grotesque idea.
“Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows men cannot breastfeed and it is shameful that a charity would be running these sessions giving credence to that.
“Angela Constance as health secretary must urgently intervene and withhold funding from this group immediately.
“Under the SNP, Scotland’s NHS is in a state of permanent crisis. Waiting lists are rising, thousands of patients wait far too long to be seen at A&E each week and people find it impossible to beat the 8am rush for GP appointments.
“Yet rather than money being spent on frontline care, it has been used to promote this perverse practice.
“This is further evidence of how Nicola Sturgeon’s toxic gender ideology is still embedded within Scotland’s charities and how they feel they can flout the clear ruling on biological sex from the Supreme Court last year.
“Not a penny more of taxpayers’ money should go to this group until their Queer Milk group is ditched.”
