SNP must use Supreme Court ruling statement to “ditch gender self-ID agenda for good”

The SNP must use their response to the Supreme Court’s ruling to tell Scots that they will ditch their “divisive” gender self-ID agenda for good, the Scottish Conservatives have urged.

As Holyrood returns from Easter recess, it has been confirmed the SNP will deliver a statement tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday) following last week’s judgment which confirmed the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex.

In the wake of the ruling, John Swinney has still refused to apologise to women who stood up to the SNP’s gender ideology and has even failed to rule out resurrecting Nicola Sturgeon’s Gender Recognition Reform Bill, which was blocked from becoming law by the previous UK Conservative government.

Scottish Conservative equalities spokesperson Tess White says tomorrow’s statement is a chance for John Swinney and other SNP ministers to finally admit they got it wrong and say they will respect the rights of women and girls.

She has said it is time to “move on” from this agenda that has also become embedded in public institutions across Scotland on the SNP’s watch and says the statement must also tell those bodies to adhere to the ruling.

Tess added that too much taxpayers’ “time and money” has been wasted on pushing this gender ideology rather than energy being spent on restoring Scotland’s public services and growing our economy.

Scottish Conservative shadow equalities spokesperson Tess White said: “Last week’s Supreme Court ruling could not have been clearer on the definition of a woman and was a humiliating defeat for the SNP’s gender agenda.

“The SNP government must use their response to tell Parliament that they are ditching their divisive gender self-ID policies for good.

“Too much taxpayers’ time and money has been spent by the SNP on pushing these policies which have also become embedded in Scotland’s public institutions on their watch.

“John Swinney and his SNP colleagues must recognise it is time to move on. Enough is enough. They must rule out resurrecting Nicola Sturgeon’s gender reform bill under any guise and must now confirm they will instruct public bodies to adhere to this ruling.

“Trust in politics, particularly among women and girls, has been shattered by the SNP’s gender policies. They should show some humility in their statement and guarantee the rights and safety of women and girls will always be protected and respected.

“I urge the SNP to drop these policies once and for all and use their energy on what really matters to Scots such as fixing our overwhelmed public services and growing our economy.”
