Findlay calls for Programme for Government to deliver 'a year of common sense'

John Swinney's Programme for Government must focus on the real issues facing Scots instead of more time being wasted on the SNP's fringe obsessions.

Scottish Conservative leader Russell Findlay says Tuesday's announcement must guarantee a year of “common-sense” politics will be delivered ahead of the 2026 Holyrood election.

He says Scots are “sick to the back teeth” of “disconnected” SNP ministers prioritising issues that don't affect their lives, rather than delivering on their real priorities.

Russell Findlay has urged John Swinney to deliver measures that will:

  • Bring down bills
  • Deliver faster GP appointments
  • Fix the roads
  • Raise school standards
  • Achieve better value for your money

He says it is time for Scots to “get more and pay less” after 18 years of suffering the opposite under the SNP.

Scottish Conservative leader Russell Findlay said: “John Swinney has a chance to do politics differently in Tuesday's Programme for Government.

“After 18 years of SNP rule, Scots are sick to the back teeth of disconnected SNP ministers failing to deliver on the issues that matter to them.

“Too much time and taxpayers’ money has been wasted on the nationalists’ fringe obsessions and SNP MSPs failing to use basic common sense.

“A year out from the Holyrood election, Scots are desperate to see politicians showing some common sense for a change.

“I'm urging John Swinney to ditch his failed agenda and focus on delivering on matters that concern Scots every day.  We want to bring down people's bills, get patients seen by their GP quicker, fix our crumbling roads, restore standards in our schools, and deliver better value for taxpayers.

“It is time for Scots to get more and pay less. My party shares the values of mainstream Scotland such as aspiration, opportunity and decency.

“The onus is on John Swinney to ditch his narrow-minded nationalist agenda on Tuesday and start delivering for Scots.”
