The Scottish Conservatives have won the Forth and Endrick by-election after topping the poll in the Stirling council vote, which was held following the death of Scottish Conservative councillor Paul Henke.
Katie Harrison becomes the party’s newest councillor after securing 34 per cent of the first preference votes cast, beating the SNP into second place.
Scottish Labour were a distant third, with Reform trailing in fifth.
Scottish Conservative leader Russell Findlay hailed the win as “superb” and says his party remain the strongest and most effective opposition to John Swinney’s failing SNP.
The win comes ahead of the party’s UK conference in Birmingham which starts on Sunday.
Scottish Conservative leader Russell Findlay said: “I congratulate Councillor Katie Harrison on her superb victory which continues the legacy of our late Scottish Conservative colleague Paul Henke.
“Having campaigned with Katie, I know that she’ll be a strong voice for residents in Forth and Endrick.
“The Scottish Conservatives proved to voters in this by-election that our focus is on the issues that truly matter to them.
“People are sick of paying more but getting less from SNP-led Stirling Council and I know Katie and all our Scottish Conservative councillors will fight to keep bills down and protect local services.
“We remain the strongest and most effective opposition to John Swinney’s failing SNP government at both a local and national level.”
